The Ride that Wasn't

Yesterday we tried to go for a short bike ride to the mailbox after lunch. I shoulda figured it wouldn't be as easy as that.

As soon as we got to the top of our driveway Jack gave up. He didn't want to ride on the road, he wanted to haul booty down the driveway (such a thrill seeker). So he got frustrated and quit.

I wound up putting him on my handlebars (not sure how it worked but it did). I know it's not the safest thing in the world and I thought about a hundred times that I'd for sure be jailed by the safety inspector if I got caught, but I plugged on. He loved it. Of course he did. He was balanced on my handlebars!
Kate made it to the neighbors house and then quit. Her trike couldn't go as fast as Kale's and mine and she got mad. And hot. And tired. And she screamed. Loud. I'm sure the neighbors who were home were wondering what kind of torture I was putting my children through.Kale had fun - at the beginning. He took off and went all the way to the mailbox (while I was trying to calm Kate down and keep Jack on my handlebars). I wasn't ok with him taking off like that but he said it was super fun. Then he wanted to let Kate try. Well the bike was way too big for her so she got frustrated and cried again. I finally gave up and said we're headed home. Then Kale got mad because Kate was on his bike and hers was too hard to ride. He cried and sat down on the side of the road and refused to bring her trike home.

So I had to take Jack back home, drop him and my bike off, walk to the neighbors to get Kale, carry Kate's bike back home, pick up Jack's bike on the way and put it all away.

Not sure I'll be solo biking with children again till I figure out a better system...

God is the God of our yesterdays. He allows us the memory of them so we can turn the past into the ministry for the future.

"I don't think you can explain how Christian faith works. It is a mystery. And I love this about Christian spirituality. It cannot be explained, and yet it is beautiful and true. It is something you feel, and it comes from the soul."
